  33. Here's a list of pros and cons ...

  35. I agree with Robert that Director has some *serious* limitations - the handling of 
  36. palettes and color depth reduction is *horrible*.
  37.  
  38. Lingo is powerful but very verbose.

  40. I haven't worked with icon-based systems, but the frames analogy works well for me.

  42. Shockwave doesn't allow for repeat loops (haven't been able to figure out why!) or 
  43. for linked media. i.e. no avi's. This was a shock for me after I spent a week 
  44. designing a roller coaster for an online carnival (it's on my gallery page) and 
  45. ended up having to display it in 4-bit color depth to keep it under 3 megs!

  47. Any compressed image format is internally decompressed when it gets into Director. 
  48. i.e those 200K frames that you compressed down to 8K are all now 200K or more 
  49. again. Nasty.

  51. Hopefully Director 5 and Shockwave 2 will remedy some of these probs. I spoke to 
  52. Macromedia about the linked media thing and supposedly that wil be fixed by this 
  53. summer.
